District 9112 “DG Speaks” 11th Edition Highlights

On Monday, May 12, 2025, the eleventh edition of DG Speaks took place, continuing its tradition of being highly informative.

The session began with the pioneer district governor of Rotary International District 9112, Rotarian Olufemi Adenekan, who expressed his gratitude to all the committed participants of the online platform.

He extended his appreciation to the public image chair, AG Rotarian Ehi Braimah, and congratulated him on his recent appointment as the Assistant Rotary Public Image Coordinator (ARPIC) for the 2025-2026 Rotary year. Rotarian Olufemi praised AG Braimah for his dedication to enhancing the media presence.

Following this, DG Olufemi shared important updates regarding the district, ensuring everyone was informed of the latest developments. Here’s a summary of his key points:

Membership: The district has grown from 2,944 members and 73 clubs to around 3,500 members and 79 clubs, which includes the formation of six new clubs. A heartfelt thank you to the clubs that have embraced the initiative for membership growth, as well as to the sponsors of the new clubs. We look forward to the sponsorship of more clubs in the future. Member retention remains a critical focus for Rotary, thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Gbagada, Lagos and other clubs for their effective strategies in maintaining membership. The Rotary Club of Gbagada currently holds the highest membership, followed closely by the Rotary Club of Lagos. Let us work together to sustain our membership efforts, and a big thank you to all clubs that are contributing to this goal.

Rotary International Semi-Annual Dues: We kindly remind everyone to pay their semi-annual dues before the deadlines. For Rotary Clubs, the deadline is Sunday, May 18, while for Rotaract Clubs, it is Wednesday, May 21. Please note that suspension is not beneficial, as reinstatement will require payment of both a penalty fee and any outstanding dues.

Rotary Foundation: We have collectively donated $210,771.81 to the Rotary Foundation. Despite the challenges we face, let’s strive to contribute even more. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference, so please continue to support the foundation.

DISCON: The District Conference (DISCON) will take place from Thursday, May 22, to Sunday, May 25, 2025. We are excited to host a representative from Rotary International, along with his cousin, who will spend about 10 days with us. We will join several clubs for fellowship activities and visit various project sites.

Vocational Training Center: We are diligently working to complete the Vocational Training Center before the end of the Magic of Rotary year. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to this initiative, and to those who continue to lend their support. Special thanks to the dedicated presidents. The Rotary Club of Gbagada-South has committed to managing the toilet facilities. We encourage everyone to participate in this project, regardless of the amount.

DG Itinerary: The District Governor’s itinerary is quite packed, so if you require my attention, please provide advance notice.

District Directory: Clubs are encouraged to come and collect the District Directory, which is now ready for distribution.

Support to the District: A sincere thank you to all who consistently provide their support. Let’s continue to keep that support coming.

Other Matters Discussed: A complete transition to solar energy usage within the District, District Grants, Rotarians in the Diaspora, the District Learning Seminar, the importance of enhancing one’s Rotary knowledge through the Rotary Learning Institute, Rotakids Children’s day party as well as Calgary Convention.
