(+Photos) Highlights from the Charter Presentation and Induction Ceremony of the Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters (First Passport Club In Nigeria and Africa)

The Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters has proudly become the first Passport Club in both Rotary International District 9112 and Africa with the dedicated and resilient, Rotarian Enitan Sophie Oluwa, as the charter president and PP Alozie Nsirimobi as the New Club Adviser.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Gbagada, led by Rotarian Niyi Adekunle, the new club received its charter on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025 with vibrant 31 members and meets virtually on Wednesdays at 5pm.  

The charter presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Golfview Hotel and Suites in Ikeja, a venue familiar to the sponsor club for fellowship gatherings.

During the ceremony, Rotarian Enitan Sophie Oluwa was officially installed as the president of the Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters (Passport Club), on behalf of Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick. This event marked the club’s official recognition. The members were inducted, and the charter certificate was formally presented to them.

Additionally, CP Rotarian Enitan Sophie Oluwa received a “magic of rotary” banner and a diary from the pioneering District Governor, Rotarian Olufemi Adenekan, as support for her upcoming year of service. Also, during the ocassion, scholarship was also awarded to brillint yet underprivileged tertiary students.

In his remarks, DG Rotarian Olufemi Adenekan emphasized the uniqueness of the Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters, noting its pioneering role in Nigeria. He explained that the club offers flexibility in meeting formats, allowing members to connect online or remotely, unlike traditional clubs with stricter meeting schedules. Members are encouraged to share fellowship globally and coordinate meetings at mutual convenient times. He congratulated all members for joining in this innovative approach and emphasized the club’s special passport system that aligns with Rotary principles.

DG Olufemi urged members members to collaborate effectively, to be active on social media and maintain strong connections to enhance communication and efficiency, and for the club’s success. He acknowledged the importance of knowing each member personally and encouraged transparency, especially for new members. He advised that the president should lead collaboratively rather than assume authority over others. Finally, he encouraged teamwork among all members to achieve success.

The District Governor Nominee for RI District 9112, a member of the Rotary Club of Gbagada, extended heartfelt congratulations to the club, stating, “I commend the District Governor and the new club along with its members. Today marks a day of joy and pride; however, it is essential to remember that with great privilege comes great responsibility.”

The Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters (First Passport Club in Nigeria and Africa) may have a flexible format, but what stands out among its members is their vibrant spirit and unwavering eagerness to serve their community.
