District 9112 Community Economic Development (CED) Seminar Highlights

The theme “From Skills to Enterprise: Driving Economic Development,” from the recently concluded Community Economic Development (CED) Seminar, offered participants valuable insights on the subject.

Led by Chair Rotarian Faith Ikems, the CED committee ensured a rich experience by gathering a distinguished lineup of speakers to address the topics thoroughly.

District Governor Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin emphasized the essential role of Rotarians in addressing economic challenges during his address. He noted that the seminar is aimed at enhancing understanding of Community Economic Development (CED) to foster growth and lasting change. Initiatives such as equipment provision and microcredit schemes, and so on are vital for progress. He expressed gratitude to all participants for their involvement despite the weather.

PP Rtn. Faith Ikems, Community Economic Development (CED) Chair, praised Rotarians for their impactful projects and highlighted initiatives from Rotary District 9112 that promote service, job creation, and youth empowerment. She outlined upcoming projects that align with the committee’s goals, stressing that CED is crucial for sustainability: “We empower individuals with knowledge and opportunities, strengthening communities and promoting peace.”

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Femi Egbesola, who discussed “Community Economic Development: A Pathway to Prosperity.”

The seminar included a panel discussion featuring distinguished thought leaders, skillfully moderated by Rtn. Nnaemeka Nebechi. The Plenary/Panel Discussion Session centered on the theme “Entrepreneurship as a Tool for Sustainable Community Development.”

Each panelist presented a theme that aligned with the topic of the event. Mr. Adebiyi Adeboye, FICP, focused on “Cooperatives as a Hub for Sustainable Community Empowerment and Wealth Creation.” Rotarian Harrison Yakubu explored “Leveraging Technology for Local Impact and Community Development.” Rotarian Kemi Folorunsho presented on “Rotary’s Global Impact on Community Economic Development.”

Additionally, there was a breakout session featuring several insightful speakers. Rotarian Christyn Obiajulu discussed “Entrepreneurship & Startup Clinic – From Idea to Business Plan.” Dr. Omolaraeni Mary Olaosebikan addressed “Women & Youth Empowerment – Breaking Barriers in Business,” and Mr. Oluwaseyi Oluwawumiji focused on “Technology & Skills Development – Digital Skills for the Future of Work.”
