RI District 9112 Signs MOU with Lagos State Government (LASG), Ministry of Tertiary Education on Epe Vocational Training Centre

Rotary International (RI) District 9112, under the leadership of the District Governor, Rtn. Lanre Adedoyin, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, as regards the Vocational Training Center in Odomola, Epe.

The MOU formalizes the agreement between the parties regarding the RI District 9112 Vocational Training Centre in Odomola, Epe, which is experiencing rapid growth. The centre currently serves about 300 trainees, who are acquiring essential, market-relevant skills in barbing, hairdressing, catering, makeup artistry, fashion design, and other vocational trades, made possible through the commitment and support of Rotarians and partners.

The MOU was officially signed on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the District Governor (DG) and his team to the Permanent Secretary (PS), Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education (OSAE), Mr. Waheed Adeniran Kasali.

The DG and team comprising DGE Rtn. Layi Abidoye, Chairman of the Center Based Management Committee Fred Ijewere, and other key members—including District Executive Secretary PP Omotunde Olaleye, Chief of Staff PAG Akeem Sunmonu, and Special Assistant PP Desmond Otakponmwen were warmly received by PS, Mr. Kasali, alongside Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, Director of the Agency for Mass Education, and other members of the ministry’s team.

Beyond the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the visit also served to strengthen the ongoing partnership between Rotary International District 9112 and the Lagos State Government, a collaboration that has been in place since 2018.

Speaking during the engagement, District Governor Rtn. Lanre Adedoyin, highlighted Rotary’s focus on various areas beyond Community Economic Development and Basic Education And Literacy aligning with the Lagos State Government’s agenda for sustainability. He affirmed that Rotarians are dedicated to making a positive impact in different aspects of society. “There is no area where Rotary hasn’t made a difference,” he noted.

Permanent Secretary (PS) Mr. Waheed expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Rotary and thanked them for creating an environment that allows trainees to develop their skills. He assured the DG and his team that the vocational training center would be well maintained for future generations. “We must ensure they have something to offer when they enter the job market—they need a Unique Selling Point (USP),” he stated.

Fred IJewere, Chairman of the Center Based Management Committee, shared plans to collaborate with leading industries to ensure that the skills taught at the Vocational Training Center align with current job market demands, preparing trainees for success in the 21st century.

In her remarks, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, Director of the Agency for Mass Education, recognized Rotary International District 9112 as a key partner in the current administration’s agenda, particularly in fostering public–private partnerships.

The MOU was signed amid great excitement from both parties, signaling a continued partnership with Rotary that promises sustainability and ongoing success.
