District Governor, Rotarian Olufemi Adenekan’s Message For October 2024: “Community Economic Development Month”
Community Economic Development Month
Fellow Rotarians,
Happy 64th Independence Day Celebrations. Today is special for us in Nigeria, as the country celebrates its independence from colonial rule 64 years ago. It also marks the beginning of a new month.
The month of October is designated by Rotary International as Community Economic Development Month.
During this time, we, as Rotarians, are expected to implement projects that will positively impact the lives of the less privileged in our communities. Our quest to increase our impact and enhance our reach as a District and as individual clubs cannot be underestimated. Over the years, we have consistently carried out successful service projects that have benefited our communities and those beyond. I urge you to continue in this effort.
I encourage clubs to pool their resources to implement significant projects. Through joint efforts, we can deliver larger and more impactful service initiatives. For the thirty-one clubs I have visited so far, I have emphasised the importance of collaboration and partnerships in joint projects. Clubs can plan and implement Global Grant or District Grant-funded projects. When actions are fulfilled, we will transform our environment.
Our district leaders have just returned from Mauritius, where they acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to support clubs. I urge you to take advantage of their expertise by calling on us for assistance.
At the District level, the committee in charge of Community Economic Development will organize a seminar during the month. Please ensure your club is well represented.
Finally, thank you for continuing to be people of action, creating the magic of Rotary through every service project you implement.
Olufemi Adenekan
